The Twilight Zone TV series is on my mind a lot right now in this “foreign” world where people are wearing masks!
When I was 5 years old I watched The Pig Faced Doctors episode of "The Twilight Zone."
Masked doctors were staring down at their patient on an operating table. We saw only their troubled eyes above their masks. They were horrified by their hideous patient. They were going in to surgery to fix her horrible face.
Now the camera moves down slowly to her face. I was so scared!!!
But wait!!! She’s young. She’s beautiful!
The doctors take off their masks. They have pig faces! They’re hideous!
I felt horrible shock. Very scary to me at 5 and, frankly, to me now.
Why was I allowed to watch "The Twilight Zone" at 5 years old? Why wasn’t someone watching me? Where were my parents? The simplified answer is that my parents had a really hard marriage. They never divorced but they probably “should” have. I don’t know. I never told my mom about the Pig Faced Doctors. She might have been mad. I kept the horrible images to myself but I was definitely traumatized by it.
People are traumatized right now. We’re in a place we never imagined being and we’re desperately trying to figure out how to get back to our normal lives.
Divorce feels like that in many ways. Even when someone “wants” a divorce, we are in mourning for our normal life and, in some ways, we are trying to figure out how to get back to our normal lives. We are scared and overwhelmed.
And we’re social distancing. It sucks! No hugging in a time when you need hugs more than ever.
Even in the best scenario, divorce is scary. It’s uprooting, stressful and challenging. Now add the coronavirus, illness, death, fear, quarantining and the fight for social justice, and it becomes almost unbearable.
If you’re getting a divorce, you understandably need tangible and meaningful support.
Thankfully, Attorney Laura Wasser author, entrepreneur, and Family Law expert with over 20 years of experience developed It’s Over Easy to simplify the divorce process online. By sharing her vast experience in family law, couples are empowered to reclaim control over their own destinies. It’s Over Easy, the online divorce service guides you through every aspect of your case. It generates Family Law forms, negotiates a marital settlement deal, and files an uncontested divorce in court. As she says, “Divorce is hard but the legal process shouldn’t be.”
At my organizing and home moving company Pearl Concierge Services we agree 100%, and we make sure that your move is easy for you.
And here’s how we do it:
- WE HELP YOU DECIDE WHICH BELONGINGS MOVE WITH YOU.
Decisions are overwhelming. Letting go is emotional. We listen to you. WE DO NOT JUDGE. You’re getting divorced, you’re probably already judging yourself. You may feel you’re being judged by others. Not to fear. We’re here to support you during the process that absolutely brings up memories, reliving one’s past, regrets, memories, SO much. We understand you. We hear you. We don’t make the decisions for you, we help you decide. And then it gets easier and we get it done.
- WE HELP YOU DECIDE WHICH BELONGINGS TO DONATE.
Normally we arrange donation pick ups and/or take items to donations. But, it’s not normal now and donation centers are closed. So we are extra, extra sensitive because that which would normally get donated, is probably going to trash. It’s tough. We get it.
- WE HELP YOU DECIDE WHICH BELONGINGS WILL GO TO RECYCLING/TRASH
Even when things are broken, we know it’s not easy to let go. We’re listening. In the listening comes the trust and in the trust comes an easing of being able to look with fresh eyes and let go. We don’t go right to the solution because we know the best way to come to resolution is for you to figure it out. We listen and to guide you.
I’ve heard a lot of people saying life in this COVID-19 pandemic feels like being in an episode of the "The Twilight Zone" TV series.
In "The Twilight Zone," ordinary people find themselves in a world that looks like their normal world but it is not. They find themselves in world that is changed. Their new world full of fear and uncertainty. It is a living nightmare. They’re fighting to find their way home.
And now we’re all trying, struggling, fighting to “find our way home.” We want to get back to our comfort levels and to the life we once knew. We are scared, we’re uncertain, we’re praying for loved ones, for ourselves and the entire planet to not get sick, or God forbid, die from this deadly virus. It’s a nightmare.
So, imagine if you will, you’re getting divorced during a Pandemic.
And it’s not a tv show. It’s real.
A lot of tough reality to cope with. For many, divorce also means moving. Divorce and moving are 2 of the top stressors in life and they often happen at the same time.
It can be overwhelming. Paralyzing, in fact. It’s hard to know even where to start, because this is uncharted territory.
At Pearl Concierge Services, we also found ourselves in “uncharted territory” with the recent classifications of businesses being "essential" and "non-essential."
Pearl Concierge Services is ESSENTIAL and we were before COVID-19. Our clients look to us to calm, streamline and simplify their moves from beginning to end.
We’re so happy to be able to continue helping our clients through this immeasurably challenging time. We follow CDC guidelines to do our utmost to protect our clients and our employees. We check our temperatures before we come to work. We wear our gloves and masks at all times the entire time we are working.
We are here for you. And here are some of the ways we help you to breathe in these unprecedented times:
- We help you get organized
- We help you decide what belongings to keep and bring with you.
- We help you decide what to donate.
- We arrange pick-ups and drop off donations (when available.)
- We help you decide what goes to Recycling/Trash.
- We haul away your recycling/trash.
- We pack up your entire house
- We move you to your new home…local and long-distance moving.
- We unpack you.
- We make your new house a home.
And now you can breathe. Breathing is a good thing. We’re here for you. We know being overwhelmed and scared makes it hard to breathe.
